# Review and approve a draft

> Owners and editors approve drafts in the web app. Read the preview and the automated checks, then approve, request changes, or ask for a revision.

Every draft waits in **Review** until an owner or editor decides on it in the web app. You read the preview and the checks, then choose **Approve**, **Request changes and revise**, or **Request changes only**.

## Find drafts waiting for you

- **Review** in the sidebar lists every version waiting for a decision. The count next to it is the number waiting.
- The **Overview** page's **Waiting for review** list shows what's assigned to you first, then the rest of the queue.
- In the **Library**, the **Needs review** and **Assigned to me** tabs filter the same way.

## Read the draft

Open a draft. The main column shows:

- **The preview.** Switch between desktop and mobile width. **Open preview in a new tab** shows it full size, and **Files** lists everything in the package. When there are several versions, the version picker switches between them.
- **The automated checks.** **Fixed automatically** lists what Wavefront already corrected. What **still needs a person** follows, marked **Blocker** or **Check**. A blocker stops approval; a check is a warning for you to judge. See [how drafts are checked](/help/drafting-and-review/how-drafts-are-checked).
- **Discussion and activity.** Comments and milestones in one timeline.

## Decide

The **Review** box in the side column holds the decision for the version you're looking at.

1. Optionally write a note in **What should change?** It's optional when approving and needed when asking for changes.
2. Choose one:
   - **Approve**: the version is ready to publish. Articles can be published right away.
   - **Request changes and revise**: Wavefront writes the next version from your note. The original stays as it was.
   - **Request changes only**: records your note without starting a revision, for example so a teammate can edit first.

If the box says **This version can't be approved**, it has blockers or is only partly finished. Describe the fix and choose **Request changes and revise**. A revision can always be requested, even when approval isn't possible.

Only one revision of a version runs at a time. If one is already being written, the box links to it.

## Who can approve

- Owners and editors can approve, in the web app only.
- Viewers can read everything and comment, but can't approve, revise or publish.
- API keys and AI agents can never approve. They can comment and request revisions.

The only automatic approval is autopilot's, when an owner turns on auto-approve. It passes only autopilot's own calendar drafts with zero blockers. The review then shows that autopilot approved it and which owner turned it on. See [autopilot and auto-approve](/help/strategy-and-planning/autopilot-and-auto-approve).

## Bring in a reviewer

Use the **Reviewer** box to ask an owner or editor to review. They get an email with a link, and the draft shows under **Assigned to me** for them. See [comments and reviewers](/help/drafting-and-review/comments-and-reviewers).

## After you approve

- **Articles** get a **Publishing** box: pick a destination and publish now, create a draft at the destination, or schedule it. They also get **Export** for sites Wavefront doesn't publish to.
- **Copy and images** get **Use it** (copy the text or download the image) and, for social and newsletter copy, **Publishing** where a matching destination exists.

Continue with [publish your first post](/help/getting-started/publish-your-first-post).

## If something goes wrong

- **You don't see Approve.** You're a viewer, or the version is already decided. Ask an owner to change your role if you should approve.
- **Approve is refused because the package changed.** Review the version again and approve it once more.
