Suggestions and site metrics
Wavefront reads your search data daily and suggests refreshes, new ideas and fixes you approve. Site metrics track your site's authority over time.
Updated
After every daily sync, Wavefront reads your Search Console and Bing data and suggests what to do about it: refresh a page, rewrite a title, add an idea, or fix something on the site. An owner or editor approves, edits or dismisses each one. Site metrics, on the same page, track how your site’s authority and visibility change over time.
What Wavefront suggests
| Suggestion | When | What approving does |
|---|---|---|
| Close to the top | A search at positions 8 to 20, with at least 100 impressions in 28 days, lands on one of your articles | Asks for a revision that expands the article for those searches, and asks up to three related articles to link to it |
| Few clicks | A top-ten search with at least 200 impressions gets far fewer clicks than usual for its position | Asks for a revision of only the SEO title and meta description |
| Losing clicks | One of your articles lost at least 30% of its clicks against the previous 28 days | Asks for a refresh. A drop of half or more from at least 100 clicks is urgent |
| New idea | A search your site appears for (at least 50 impressions, not in the top three) that no page or backlog idea targets. Brand searches are skipped | Adds an idea to the backlog with that search as its keyword |
| Pages compete | Two of your articles rank for the same search | Asks the one with fewer clicks for a revision that makes it distinct and links to the other |
| Site task | Sitemap problems in Search Console, or an article with no impressions after three weeks | Nothing runs. It’s a task for whoever runs the site, with a Search Console link |
Every number in a suggestion comes from the synced data, with its period.
Review a suggestion
Find Suggestions on the Performance page. The Overview shows a card while any are waiting.
- Choose a suggestion to see all of it: the numbers it rests on, the page’s own searches, and exactly what approving does.
- Optionally choose Edit to change the revision’s feedback, the idea’s title, or which posts add a link. You can’t point it at another page.
- Choose one:
- Approve: Wavefront does it now. Revisions come back to Review like any other, and publishing one updates the same post. Ideas join the backlog.
- Dismiss: the same finding isn’t suggested again for 90 days.
- Mark as done on a site task once it’s fixed. If Google still reports the problem two weeks later, it comes back.
If a suggestion can’t be carried out, it’s marked failed with the reason. Choose Try again later, or dismiss it.
Check now looks for new suggestions at once, at most every 10 minutes.
See what worked
28 days after Wavefront did the work, it looks up the same search or page again and records the change, such as “Position 12.4 → 6.1, clicks 60 → 140”. Results show under Done recently and in the weekly digest, marked improved, flat, worse or unknown. Types of suggestion that worked for your site rank a little higher next time.
Messages and auto-apply
Owners open Messages and auto-apply on the Suggestions section:
- Weekly digest to owners and editors (Mondays from 9:00) in the workspace’s time zone.
- Tell us at once when a page loses half its clicks.
- By email. Slack, Teams and webhooks follow their own event lists.
- Auto-apply, off by default: carry out chosen types without asking. Revising published posts needs its own switch, Let auto-apply ask for revisions of published posts.
Work that auto-apply does is recorded as Wavefront’s, not yours, so it never auto-approves. Approvals you make in the web app count as yours.
Site metrics: authority and visibility
The Authority and visibility section on Performance tracks your site from the day the workspace got its site address. It shows up whether or not Google and Bing are connected.
- A card for each metric, with its value, the change since your baseline and since the last check, its source and definition, and a chart.
- A “Since you joined” summary, also on the Overview.
- Which sources are off. Owners see what turns each one on.
Sources include your site’s rank in public top-site lists, a weekly crawl of your site (sitemap, robots.txt, HTTPS, homepage title and description, and whether articles Wavefront published are live), and your Search Console, Analytics and Bing numbers. Other sources, such as page speed scores and backlink data, appear when they’re available.
Every number is the provider’s own metric, shown under the provider’s name. Wavefront computes no combined score. Free sources are checked weekly and paid ones monthly. Owners and editors can choose Check now, at most every 10 minutes.
Agents and scripts
Agents connected over MCP can read and explain suggestions and site metrics. Owners’ and editors’ agents can approve, edit or dismiss suggestions, and API keys with the generations:write scope can too. What an agent or key approves is recorded as theirs, and never auto-approves. Changing the message and auto-apply settings stays with owners in the web app.
If something goes wrong
- No suggestions yet. Suggestions need synced search data. Connect Google or Bing, wait for the first sync, then choose Check now.
- “No site to track yet”. The workspace has no site address. Add one through the strategist or in the workspace profile under Documents.
