Connect Search Console and Google Analytics

An owner connects Google with read-only access, picks a Search Console site and an Analytics property, and the data syncs daily to the Performance page.

Updated

An owner connects Google once under Settings → Integrations, with read-only access, and picks which Search Console site and Analytics property to read. Wavefront then syncs the data daily. It shows on the Performance page, the strategist plans from it, and suggestions are built from it.

Connect Google

  1. Open Settings → Integrations and find Google Search Console and Analytics.
  2. Choose Connect Google.
  3. Sign in with a Google account that can see your site in Search Console, Analytics, or both, and allow access. Wavefront asks for read-only access.
  4. Back in Wavefront, pick the Search Console site and the Analytics property. Wavefront preselects the ones that match the site in your workspace documents. Choose None for either one you don’t use.
  5. Choose Save. The first sync starts at once. Choose See performance to open the Performance page.

The connection row then shows the Google account, which of Search Console and Analytics it can read, and when it last synced.

What Wavefront reads

  • Search Console: searches the site appears for, clicks, impressions, click rate and average position, by query and by page, plus sitemap status.
  • Google Analytics: sessions, engagement and key events by landing page and by channel.

Wavefront keeps a rolling snapshot of the last 28 days and the 28 before, which each daily sync replaces. Impressions count how often Google showed your site, not how many people searched.

Where the data shows up

  • Performance page. Tiles for clicks, impressions, average position, sessions and key events, each with its change against the previous 28 days. Opportunities lists searches close to the top, searches with few clicks, and pages losing clicks, each with Ask the strategist. Tabs below list queries, pages, landing pages and channels.
  • Overview. Three of the tiles.
  • Published articles. The page’s own numbers appear under Publishing.
  • The strategist. It plans from the searches your site already appears for.
  • Suggestions. After every sync, Wavefront suggests refreshes, title rewrites, new ideas and site fixes. See suggestions and site metrics.

Refresh, change or disconnect

  • Sync now (in Settings) or Refresh (on Performance) fetches new data. Owners and editors can use them. If the data synced in the last 10 minutes, it’s already up to date.
  • To pick a different site or property, change it in Settings and Save. Only the owner who connected Google can pick.
  • Disconnect deletes Wavefront’s access token and the synced data. The strategist stops seeing search data. Nothing changes in Google.

You can also remove Wavefront’s access at any time from your Google Account’s security settings.

Who can do what

Action Owner Editor Viewer
See Performance and the data Yes Yes Yes
Sync now or refresh Yes Yes No
Connect, pick, disconnect Yes, in the web app No No

Before Google is connected, owners see Connect Google on the Performance page, and everyone else is told to ask an owner. Agents and API keys can read the data and ask for a sync, but can’t connect Google.

Your data

The connection is read-only. Wavefront doesn’t use your Google data to train AI models, and its use follows Google’s API Services User Data Policy. See the privacy policy.

If something goes wrong

See Google connection problems for “Google access stopped working”, missing sites or properties, and failed syncs.
