Fix Google Search Console and Analytics connection problems
Fixes for Google connections that were cancelled, lack access, show no sites or properties, stopped working, or failed to sync, in Search Console and Analytics.
Updated
Most Google connection problems come from the Google account you signed in with: it doesn’t have access to the site, or access wasn’t granted on Google’s consent screen. Reconnecting with the right account and allowing access fixes nearly all of them. Only owners can connect Google, under Settings → Integrations.
“Connecting Google was cancelled”
You closed or declined Google’s consent screen. Choose Connect Google again and finish the steps.
“Google didn’t grant access to Search Console or Analytics”
On Google’s consent screen, the boxes for Search Console and Analytics were left unchecked. Choose Connect Google again and allow at least one of them. You can connect with only Search Console, only Analytics, or both.
“Search Console access wasn’t granted” or “Analytics access wasn’t granted”
The connection works for one service but not the other. To add the missing one, connect Google again and allow both on Google’s consent screen.
“This Google account can’t see any verified Search Console sites”
The Google account you used isn’t a user on your site’s Search Console property.
- In Search Console, check which account owns or has access to the property.
- Either add the account you used as a user on the property, or reconnect Wavefront with the account that has access.
“This Google account can’t see any Analytics 4 properties”
Wavefront reads Google Analytics 4 properties. The account you used has no access to one.
- In Google Analytics, check that the site uses a GA4 property and that your account has at least viewer access.
- Reconnect with an account that does.
“Google access stopped working”
The access was revoked or expired, so the data isn’t updating. This happens, for example, when someone removes Wavefront from the Google account’s security settings.
Choose Connect again and sign in, then check the picked site and property.
Other members see this as a notice on Performance and are told to ask an owner.
“Connecting Google failed. Try again in a minute.”
Google didn’t answer in time. Wait a minute and choose Connect Google again.
The Performance page is empty after connecting
- “Pick what to read”. No site or property is picked yet. The owner who connected picks them in Settings and chooses Save.
- “Fetching the first Google data…” The first sync is running. Give it a few minutes.
- “The first Google sync failed”. The message says why. Choose Check the connection to open Settings.
- Few or no rows. A new site may have little data in Search Console yet. Wavefront shows the last 28 days.
The numbers look different from Google’s own reports
- Wavefront compares the last 28 days with the 28 before, from the last daily sync. Google’s reports may use a different range or be more recent.
- Impressions count how often Google showed your site, not how many people searched.
- Bing numbers cover four complete weeks, so they won’t line up exactly with Google’s.
Data is out of date
Data syncs daily. To fetch it now, choose Sync now in Settings or Refresh on Performance. Owners and editors can do this. If it synced in the last 10 minutes, it’s already up to date.
Only the person who connected can pick
The site and property can be picked only by the owner who connected Google. If that person left, another owner chooses Disconnect, then Connect Google with their own account.
